Can I pay my application fees (new disposition, assignment) by Visa or Mastercard? |
Credit card & debit for applications can be accepted in person at: 118-1181 Portage Ave Winnipeg however they will not review the paperwork. It is best to apply in person or send the application and payment directly to RESB along with a check or money order.

How long does it take to process a new disposition request and/or an assignment of a lease or permit? |
An assignment is required to be circulated to various stakeholders and government departments. The processing time is dependant on how quickly we receive the responses to our circular. |
How much does it cost to obtain a certified copy of a lease document? |
Leases outside provincial parks are subject to fees legislated under The Crown Lands Act. The cost is $50.00 (GST exempt).

I have received the approved assignment documents and lease, but the lease still reads in the previous lot holder's names. |
The current lot holder’s name(s) will be confirmed as an endorsement on the very back page of the lease agreement. |
I returned my completed lease renewal application, but haven't received my lease. |
RESB will process the paperwork in advance, but the renewal lease will not be issued until after the expiry of your current lease. |
I would like to add one or more names to my lease. What is the procedure? |
If your lease or permit is outside a provincial park:
- Complete an Application for Assignment of Permit, Lease or License of Occupation under The Crown Lands Act , C340.
- Submit a copy of your paid tax receipt if you pay a tax to the local taxing authority.
- All rental payments must be up-to-date prior to processing of any assignment.
- Include original lease document. (Note: If you are under a general permit, this is not required.)
- A $50.00 (no GST) processing fee, made payable to the Minister of Finance, must accompany any forms/documents.
- A site sketch completed; showing all dimensions of existing or proposed buildings and structures, distances from lot lines, water’s edge, access to the parcel, etc.
- Accounts should be paid in full when submitting an application form.

Is there a listing of available Crown Land for lease or permit? |
Due to the vast amount of Crown land throughout the province, please identify the site in question by providing a copy of a 1:50:000 topographical map (or a copy of the Plan of Subdivision). RESB will check the Crown Land Registry System and notify you as to whether or not the site is available. If the land in question is available, an application for lease or permit may then be completed and submitted. If a copy of the topographic map or Plan of Subdivision has not previously been forwarded, it must now accompany the completed application and applicable fee.
Note: Topographical maps and Plans of Subdivision may be obtained and purchased through the Surveys and Mapping Office in Winnipeg at (204) 945-6666.

My co-lot holder has recently passed away. How do I remove his/her name from the lease? |
Lease/Permit located Outside a Provincial Park
If you are listed as Joint Tenants on the lease, the following is required to remove the deceased's name from the lease:
- original or notarized copy of the Death Certificate or original Funeral Director's Statement
- original lease (most current) -- does not apply if you are under general permit
- payment of $50.00 (no GST). Cheque or money order is made payable to the Minister of Finance
- all rental payments are required to be up-to-date prior to processing documentation
If you are listed as Tenants in Common, the following is required:
- notarized copy of Grant of Probate
- original lease (most current) -- does not apply if you are under general permit
- Application for Assignment of Permit, Lease or License of Occupation under The Crown Lands Act C340. (in duplicate)
- payment of $50.00 (no GST). Cheque or money order is made payable to the Minister of Finance
- all rental payments are required to be up-to-date prior to processing documentation
- a site sketch completed; showing all dimensions of existing or proposed buildings and structures, distances from lot lines, water’s edge, access to the parcel, etc.

What is the difference between Joint Tenants and Tenants in Common? |
Joint Tenants are defined as two or more people who hold an undivided interest in the entire property. After death, the survivor acquires the deceased’s interest.
Tenants in Common are defined as two or more people who each have an undivided interest in the property; each of whom may occupy all the land in common with the other. Each tenant may dispose of their interest by will or deed. There is no right of survivorship as in joint tenancy. |

What uses are permitted on Crown Land? |
Some examples include vacation homes, boat docks, boathouses, trappers cabins, lodges and outcamps, communication tower sites, sign sites (if they fall outside the Highway Control Area) |
Where are applications for a lease or permit accessible online? |
The forms are located on this website. From the Downloads --> Forms --> General Leases and Permits. You will need to know whether the site is within or outside of a provincial park.

I am listed on the Permit/Lease as a holder, but how come I am not receiving the annual invoice? |
When invoices are generated, there is only room for the (primary) client name.
The first person named on the submitted application form will automatically be assigned as the primary contact for the Permit/Lease. It will be the responsibility of the primary contact to keep all other permit/lease holders informed of all communications and invoices regarding the Permit/Lease. All holders have the right to call and request copies of any communications and/or invoices regarding said Permit/Lease (pertaining to themselves) at any time. It is the responsibility of each holder to ensure that their contact information is correct at all times, to follow up with the primary contact to ensure that all matters are addressed in a timely manner, and that the annual invoice is paid promptly.
Annual invoice may be emailed if there is a consent form, signed by the primary contact, on file. Only one paper copy of the invoice will be mailed in the event that there is no email consent on file. Real Estate Services Branch reserves the right to re-assign the primary contact.
